Jürgen Baatzsch has been appointed an Honorary President of Royale Union Saint-Gilloise (Union SG) in recognition of his service to the club.
The appointment comes after Mr Baatzsch, the former main shareholder and President of Union SG, decided to step down from his executive responsibilities at the club in order to spend more time on his other business interests. However, Mr Baatzsch will continue his close association with the club as Honorary President.
Commenting on his change of role, Mr Baatzsch said: “It has been an honour to serve Union SG and our fans, but the time has come for me to hand over my responsibilities at the club and to focus on my other business activities. As a keen supporter of Union SG, I will continue to follow the club and am delighted to be appointed Honorary President.”
Tony Bloom, who acquired a majority shareholding in Union SG last month, said: “We are pleased that Jürgen Baatzsch is to become an Honorary President. Jürgen has served with great distinction and helped guide the club through some challenging times. I’m sure he will continue to play an important ambassadorial role for the club going forward.”
The club is currently recruiting a new CEO and hopes to be able to make an announcement soon.
